President Johnson has received a message of condolence from Israel Prime Minister Levi Eshkol over the loss of the nuclear submarine Scorpion somewhere in the North Atlantic with 99 men aboard. The Scorpion, missing for more than a week on a voyage from the Mediterranean to Norfolk, Va., was officially declared lost by the U.S. Navy yesterday.
Israel lost one of its submarines, the Dakar, which disappeared with all aboard in the eastern Mediterranean last February. Eshkol said, in his message to Johnson, that “Israel shares in the U.S. grief over the loss of the nuclear submarine Scorpion.”
