Jewish Congress to convoke a World Jewish Congress in 1935 for the purpose of considering the situation of the Jews in various countries suffered a setback again this week when the Executive of the World Jewish Congress in Paris announced that no such congress could be held in 1935, as contemplated. No reason for the postponement was given, but it is understood that the Zionist leaders insisted that the World Jewish Congress should not be convoked the same year that the Zionist Congress is to be held.

The first war campaign in connection with the Zionist Congress was announced this week from Palestine, from London and from America. From Palestine comes the news that the General Zionists there have protested against the changes which the World Zionist Executive is now making in the text of the Shekel, for the purpose of preventing the Revisionists from participating in the next Congress. From London comes the call to all Zionists to begin the elections to the next Congress. From New York comes the news that the Administrative Committee of the Zionist Organization of America has issued a call to all Zionists to vote for General Zionists only in the forthcoming election campaign.

The forthcoming election campaign to the World Zionist Congress promises to be a very exciting event. Efforts are now being made in the United States by the General Zionist Group “B” to organize a world bloc of all Zionist groups opposed to the present Zionist Executive. This bloc is also to include the Mizrachi and the Revisionists. On the other hand, the Laborites have appealed this week for at least 100,000 votes in America for the next Zionist Congress election, and have mobilized all their forces to gain this end.
