Doug Brinkley, former American radio announcer who is now a nursemaid at the “rebirth” of Germany, has returned to Berlin from where he dishes out Nazi news to the Deutsche Zeitung, weekly Hitlerite organ in New York.
Brinkley, who returned from a short visit to Germany some weeks ago, has been acclaimed in American Nazi circles for his favorable report on the “rebirth of the German nation.” He recently completed a lecture tour of eastern and middle western cells of the American Nazis where he announced that both Hitler and Hitlerism were doing as well as could he expected.
The first of Brinkley’s articles on Germany since he returned to that country appears under a May 30 dateline in the current issue of the Deutsche Zeitung. In this article the broadcaster attempts to justify Hitler’s anti-Semitism with statements that Germany always has been anti-Jewish, while virtually the whole of Europe has suffered chronic attacks of prejudice. He explains that in order to be come equipped to present the side of the German Jew he has lived for weeks in a German Jewish hotel and has cultivated the acquaintance of educated -Jews whose sympathies are with the Hitler government.
Brinkley states that 1,200 Jewish lawyers of an original 2,000 in Berlin survive the Hitler ascension, that Jewish department stores and entertainment resorts have not been affected, and that “the Germans have never been able to get their side told truth fully in the foreign press, most of which is under Jewish control.”
