The possibilities of Palestine soil for raising various crops will be examined by Sir Edward John Russell, famous British authority on chemistry and agriculture, who is sailing for Palestine this week.
Sir Edward, who is director of the Rothamstead Experimental Station in Hertfordshire, England, will make the survey at the request of the Palestine government for the purpose of discovering the best methods, based on soil analysis, for using fertilizers and developing Palestine agriculturally. The Rothamstead Experimental Station is the oldest of its kind and is recognized as the most authoritative agricultural research establishment in the world.
Sir Edward will spend only a fortnight in Palestine, in view of his arrangement to go to the United States to study the soil of the cotton and wheat belts as well as the desert land.
