Israel has no chances of securing the release of the 50 Mirage V jet fighter-bombers bought in France, delivery of which was blocked by former President de Gaulle’s embargo, as long as France hopes to convince Egypt to adopt the French Scam color television system, the London Daily Telegraph reported today from Paris. A delegation of four senior officials arrived in Paris from Cairo yesterday to discuss possible adoption by Egypt of the French system as against the West German PAL system. The French system has been adopted by the Soviet Union. France regards Egypt as the key to color television throughout the Arab world, which it considers an untapped market. The two systems are not compatible.
