The League of Friends of New Germany yesterday announced that it has issued an order for the discontinuance of the use of all pins, buttons, medallions, cards and stationery bearing the insignia of the organization.
The insignia, a swastika, super-imposed on the American shield, will be changed entirely, a spokesman for the Friends of New Germany said yesterday. He stated that he could not describe the new emblem because its pattern had not yet been decided upon. He further declared that the order did not come as a result of court or governmental action on the case.
PROTEST BROUGHT TO HEAD
Scattered protest against the insignia was brought to a climax one week ago when Edgar H. Eurman, chairman of the anti-Nazi committee of the Jewish War Veterans, announced that he intended seeking an injunction to restrain the Nazis from the use of this emblem. He conferred with attorneys on the subject, but no action was taken. Eurman based his belief that the case could be successfully prosecuted on the terms of Section 1425 of the Penal Code, which governs the use of the national emblem.
When informed of the order to discontinue the insignia, Eurman said that he would take no further action. He said the emblem caused many people to believe that the friends of New Germany had the official sanction of the United States Government.
