The “Friendship Food Train” from the City of New York to the people of Israel was presented to Israeli envoy to the U.S. Eliahu Epstein by Acting Mayor Vincent Impellitteri today at special ceremonies in front of City Hall, where a motorcade of 100 trucks and trailers loaded with essential foods collected by the Zionist Organization of America wound up after a parade through the central streets of the city.
The Z.O.A. food train was turned over to Impellitteri by Dr. Abba Hillel Silver, chairman of the American Zionist Emergency Council, and Dr. Emanuel Neumann, president of the Z.O.A., whose “Food for Israel campaign was undertaken at the request of the Israeli Supply Mission here. Since the beginning of the drive, some 3,000 tons of food valued at $2,500,000 have been collected by Z.O.A, branches throughout the country, Dr. Neumann reported.
