Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the Riverside Memorial Chapel for Dr. Eugene Klein, Jewish surgeon, who achieved an international reputation in the experimental field.
Dr. Klein, who was an adjunct surgeon to the Mount Sinai Hospital, succumbed to pneumonia at the age of thirty-nine.
Mount Sinai hospital established a special surgical gastro-enterological research laboratory in 1927 for Dr. Klein to develop his theories.
Dr. Klein received worldwide recognition from clinicians and surgical journals for his contributions to the cause and cure of gastric ulcer and the cure of mesenteric-thrombosis, a stop-page of the blood vessels leading to the intestines that causes gangrene. He was the author of numerous papers which appeared in surgical journals.
He was a member of the New York County Medical Society and the Metropolitan Medical Society, the American Medical Association and was a fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine.
Dr. Klein is survived by his wife and daughter and by his mother and sister.
