Funeral services were held yesterday for the late Hyman Goldman, outstanding Detroit Zionist leader and eminent scholar, who died on his eightieth birthday.
The main branch of the United Hebrew Schools, of which Goldman was one of the founders and of which he was elected honorary director for life last year, was closed in tribute to his memory.
First president of the first Zionist society formed in 1901 in Detroit under the name of Yavneh, he was for thirty years a leader in Zionism. When Dr. Chaim Weizmann came to the United States in 1921 to organize the Keren Hayesod, Goldman was elected the fund’s first president here. He was honored by orthodox Jews for his devotion to every important cause.
