Complaints made by Palestinian Jewish leaders that the £2,000,000 loan to be floated by the Palestine government will benefit the Arabs directly while the Jews of Palestine, who will obtain few benefits, will be compelled to pay for the loan, were confirmed by announcement made yesterday by High Commissioner Sir Arthur Grenfell Wauchope in Haifa.
Sir Arthur announced that £40,000 of the loan will be used to build an Arab trade school near Haifa Bay to be maintained fully from government budgetary funds. The High Commissioner also declared that 20,000 of the loan will go for Jewish technical schools in Palestine, but only as a grant, and the rest of the budget for the Jewish technical school will have to be made up by Palestine Jewry.
This makes it appear that it is the policy of the Palestine government to maintain fully Arab schools, but not Jewish educational institutions. Thus the Arabs will benefit directly from the loan and receive permanent support from budget funds.
