The Gdynia-America Line announced this week that the quota for German Jewish refugees going to Palestine has been doubled for its boats by the British immigration authorities. Recognizing the emergency existing in Germany and Central Europ, the British mandate authorities have given permission to the liner Polonia to bring in 400 immigrants to each of the seaports of Haifa and Jaffa, a total of 800 for each trip. Heretofore the stipulated quota had been 200 for each port.
When the Polonia sailed from Constanza, Roumania, on January 10, it had on board the 800 Jewish emigrants, most of whom will settle on land in Palestine. This is the only direct steamship connection maintained between Central Europe and Palestine.
