“German anti-Semitism is principally propagated by the German Universities”, stated Mr. Jacques Sonneborn, who arrived in New York on a visit to this country from Hamburg, Germany. “Seventy-five percent of the faculty and students of these universities are pursuing an anti-Semitic policy.”

Mr. Sonneborn attributes this to the role played in German national life by the students of German universities, since it is from this body of young men that the officer class of the German Army is principally recruited. The policy of the German military authorities has been extremely anti-Semitic in its exclusion of Jews from the officer class of the German army.

The “Hammer”, the newspaper that attacked Max Warburg and his family connections in the banking world, came in for a measure of condemnation from Mr. Sonneborn. He states that this paper has a very poor reputation.

Mr. Sonneborn, who is the largest oil manufacturer in Germany, came to the United States to visit relatives. He will remain in New York for several days and will then proceed on a trip through the country as far as California.
