The issue of German reparations for Israel and the future of German-Arab relations has again been taken up by the political committee of the Arab League at Cairo, political circles here have learned with some anxiety.
These circles regard the new discussion of the much-discussed matter as the result of lack of German political missions in the Arab countries. The Arab League now accuses the Federal Government of having disregarded its promise to send special trade delegations to various Arab countries consisting of commercial and industrial experts who were to negotiate with the Arab governments on future German-Arab trade relations.
Actually, only one delegation was sent by the German Government. Since it met with strong opposition in Saudi Arabian circles and received no help from other Arab countries with the exception of Egypt, it also remained the last one.
The immediate establishment of political missions in certain Arab key cities was designed to be a more effective substitute both in the political and economic field. It therefore surprised political circles here that the Arab League has seen fit to renew its old protests against the reparations agreement and is threatening to take measures against all German firms engaging in reparations trade with Israel.
