Aharon Becker, general secretary of Histadrut, the Israel Federation of Labor, voiced appreciation here today for labor’s stand in support of Israel. The Israeli leader arrived here last night from a Latin American tour and was guest of honor at a luncheon tendered by George Meany, President of the AFL-CIO. He told guests at the luncheon that “if this war has any lesson, it is that we cannot go back to the conditions which produced it, but must go forward to peace. That peace can be achieved only — and who knows this better than we do in the trade union movement — if the parties to the conflict sit down together at the conference table and negotiate directly.”
