Hillel Seidel, head of the Histadrut Absorption Department, told the Histadrut Central Committee today that about 100,000 Russian Jews are currently seeking permission to emigrate to Israel. He made the report after returning from Vienna where he visited the transit camp for Russian Jewish emigres.
A large group of Russian Jews arrived here last night. They included Prof. Vladimir Bravoj, a noted chemist from Kiev and his wife, son and daughter. The scientist and his son were arrested several times during their efforts to obtain exit visas. Both were arrested several months ago for participating in a rally outside the Kiev synagogue. They were released two weeks ago and told they could obtain their visas. However, Bravoj’s son’s wife was denied a visa and is still in the Soviet Union.
