Mordecai Namir, secretary general of the Histadrut, today handed the Czechoslovak Charge d’Affaires in Israel the text of a resolution by the recent Histadrut national conference calling for the release of Mordecai Oren from prison in Czechoslovakia. The Czech diplomat promised to forward the resolution to Europe.
Mr. Oren, a Mapam leader and member of the Histadrut executive, was involved in the Rudolf Slansky trials in Prague and “confessed” to plotting against the Czech state in behalf of “Zionists” and “imperialists.” With the rehabilitation and release of other defendants in those trials, there is new hope that Mr. Oren, who received a 15-year sentence, will be freed.
