A request by the Vatican that it be allowed to send representatives to occupied Poland for the purpose of investigating the reports of mass-killing of Poles and Jews by the Nazi occupation authorities was rejected by Hitler, the London press reported today.
The Jewish Telegraphic Agency was informed today by authoritative sources that no final decision has been made by the British Government with regard to action on the Nazi atrocities in Poland, The matter is still under consideration and the government’s decision may be made public through a statement in the House of Commons.
At today’s session of Commons some members raised the question of whether the ban on ringing church bells, which has been in force since the outbreak of the war, would be lifted for Christmas Day. Miss Eleanor Rathbone, Laborite member, pointed out during the discussion that “since Christmas bells are considered to be joy bells, would it not be a mockery to ring bells this Christmas when men, women and children of the nation that gave us the Bible are being massacred?”
The Association of Polish Jews in Portugal today informed Jewish leaders in London by wire that it joined yesterday in the protest of British Jewry against the Nazi extermination of Jews in Europe, A detailed report of the Nazi atrooities on Jews in Poland was broadcast last night over the British radio to all countries on the European continent.
