Funeral services attended by many writers and political leaders, were held hers today for joel Slonim, Jewish poet and for twenty-five years a member of the editorial staff of the Jewish newspaper The Day, who died Thursday night at the Fifth Avenue Hospital at the age of 60. He was considered his paper’s outstanding political reporter and, at one time, was secretary of the Department of Docks of New York City.
Born in Drogitzine, Russia, Mr. Slonim was two years old when his parents migrated to the United States to make their home in Chicago. He attended public school, high school and college in that city. He began by writing for English-language papers and magazines, but turned to Yiddish journalism, in which he had spent the last thirty-five years of his life.
