Industry and commerce are rapidly developing in the Ica colonies in the Argentine, according to a report received here by the Central Executive of the Jewish Colonization Association.
This development is proving of great benefit to the colonists, the report states. At Basavilbaso in Entre-Rios a company has been floated, consisting mostly of Jews, which has constructed two factories, one for the generation of electricity and the other for the manufacture of farinaceous foods (macaroni, etc.) A flour mill has also been established by the same company on the most up-to-date lines. It possesses four silos with a capacity for 1,200 tons of corn. The first financial year of the company has already shown appreciable advance and the company has declared a 10 per cent dividend.
