Intermarriage does not lead to the decline of diabetes among Jews, Dr. E. Mueller establishes here in an article in the British Medical Journal.
Dr. Mueller bases his statement on observation made of the case histories of 1,372 patients studied with a view to establishing the hereditary factor in diabetes. In this series there were 132 Jewish patients in whom intermarriage was the rule. Of them thirty-three had diabetes.
The author postulates that diabetes is due to a congenital inferiority of the pancreas. This inferiority is an hereditary factor, he asserts.
