Israel has a serious manpower problem because 70 percent of the immigrants who are arriving now are unskilled, J. Barshirs, representative of the Israel working class movement, today told the International Labor Organization which is currently meeting here. Mr. Barshiras appealed to the I.L.O. for guidance in handling this problem.
The Israel workers’ delegate also revealed that the current national austerity program has reduced the cost of living in the Jewish state by some ten percent. He also expressed the hope that the Middle East regional I.L.O. conference, which is now scheduled to open early in 1951, is not postponed again and that it will result in the adoption of practical measures for improving the lot of workers.
