Intruders broke into Congregation Emanuel here at an undetermined time during the past day and stole what Rabbi Benjamin Plotkin described as “an old broken-down radio and an old typewriter.” He said the intruders apparently opened but did not steal or vandalize the temple’s “beautiful silver and elegant ark.” Rabbi Plotkin said he did not think the incident was anti-Semitic in nature. He said the last incident at his synagogue occurred three years ago and resulted in a fire and $5,000 in damages. The police are investigating the latest incident.
