The Israel delegation at the United Nations confirmed today that it had asked Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold to arrange for the withdrawal of Syrian forces from the demilitarized zone in the Lake Tiberias sector which was the scene of a week-long series of clashes.
This confirmation came after Israel’s acting permanent representative, Yosef Tekoah, accompanied by Arieh Eilan, another delegation member, conferred with Mr. Hammarskjold for 90 minutes today. The conference today, however, was concerned almost entirely with the Suez Canal impasse, it was ascertained. It was affirmed that the Syrian situation was only mentioned but not discussed.
