Ehud Avriel, director general of the Israel Treasury, today told 900 delegates attending the 52nd annual conference of the Zionist Federation of Britain that he was confident the United States will provide grants in aid for Israel for the next two years. Mr. Avriel recently visited the United States to confer with high American government officials.
Opening the parley last night, Janus Cohen, head of the federation, expressed the hope that instead of supplying arms to the Arabs, the British Government would realize that the Middle East needed peace and economic progress more than weapons. The conference today heard an address by Israel Ambassador Eliahu Elath.
The conference also adopted a resolution welcoming the Soviet withdrawal of charges against the Moscow doctors, six of whom are Jews, and expressed the hope that diplomatic relations would be resumed between Israel and the USSR The resolution also called for a change of policy in the Communist lands toward Zionism and urged them to permit their Jewish citizens to leave for Israel if they chose.
