The writing of a “Book of Independence” as a postscript to the Jewish Scriptures, to be read in the synagogues on every Israel Independence Day, was proposed today by Chief Rabbi I. M. Toledano of Tel Aviv.Rabbi Toledano said similar books, including the Book of Esther, have been written to mark victories over Israel’s enemies. He urged that the proposed Book be written in Biblical Hebrew and be ready for next year’s celebrations.
