Khamis Abu Gosh, former chairman of the Council of the Arab village of Abu Gosh, was sentenced today to nine months’ imprisonment for illegally crossing into Jordan several weeks ago.
The Arab official was returned to Israel by the United Nations Israel-Jordan Mixed Armistice Commission. He told the court he had crossed over to Jordan out of despair over “insurmountable debts” and not out of any animosity toward the State of Israel.
