The hope that Jerusalem and the Hebrew University there will become the “spiritual center of our people” was voiced here last night by Israeli representative to the United States Eliahu Epstein, addressing a meeting of the American Friends of the Hebrew University.
Mr. Epstein disclosed that the Hebrew University is using Talmudic literature for scientific research, preparing a new edition of the Hebrew Bible and translating into Hebrew the works of the ancient Greek philosophers. Asserting that the institution has also played an important role in guiding the “material upbuilding of Israel,” the Israeli representative stated that the University’s research in “chemistry, physics and geology has proved of the greatest value.”
