Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres and Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat both said a proposed cease-fire meeting could take place as early as next week. Peres told diplomats that “preparations are on” for a meeting, but that he prefers to have it in an isolated setting, not on the sidelines of an economics conference in Italy. Meanwhile, an adviser to Arafat was quoted as saying the meeting could be held as early as next week.
