It’s increasingly unlikely that Palestinians will achieve statehood by next year, the State Department said. Spokesman Richard Boucher echoed earlier assertions by President Bush that the “road map” peace plan’s 2005 deadline for Palestinian statehood was unrealistic, given disarray among the Palestinians and the fact that they had not met preliminary obligations over the past year.
