To increase the effectiveness of relief and rehabilitation operations being carried on in behalf of the surviving 1,250,000 Jews in continental Europe, the Joint Distribution Committee and the South African Jewish War Appeal have worked out an arrangement which unites the two organizations as partners in their humanitarian work, it was announced today by Dr. Joseph C. Hyman, executive vice-chairman of the J.D.C.
The program resulting from discussions in Jerusalem by Leo Feit, honorary treasurer of the South African Jewish War Appeal, and Charles Passman, director of the Middle East program for the J.D.C., calls for the Joint Distribution Committee to continue the actual distribution of relief supplies as well as the setting up of long-range rehabilitation and reconstruction programs. “Because of the J.D.C.’s vast experience and extensive activities since the first World War,” the S.A.J.W.A. stated, the complex job of seeing the relief program through will be left entirely to the J.D.C.
