The request that no special campaign be launched to raise the $10,000,000 quota allotted to the United States in the four-year drive for expatriating German Jews was contained in a statement issued last night by the Plan and Scope Committee for the $3,500,000 1936 campaign of the Joint Distribution Committee at the Hebrew Union College.
The statement, presented by Joseph C. Hyman and Paul Baerwald to clarify the relation of the J.D.C. to the proposals of the delegation of British Jews headed by Sir Herbert Samuel, said the $10,000,000 should be included in the programs of existing organizations.
It was declared that nothing in the plan would help German exports or Germany’s economy.
The J.D.C. is the only organization expending funds in helping the Jews within Germany and in refugee countries for retraining and transportation, the statement said. Activities are also being conducted in Poland and Eastern Europe.
