Japan is seeking to play a role in Middle East peacemaking because it believes that it maintains a good relationship with both sides. Speaking in London before traveling to the Middle East, Japan’s foreign minister said his country also has the advantage of being able to offer financial aide to countries in the region. Masahiko Komura plans to visit Israel, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and the Palestinian self-rule areas in the coming days.
