Steel-helmeted, heavily-armed police patrolled the streets of Jerusalem and Jaffa in lorries yesterday following Friday’s demonstrations in various parts of Palestine during which two Arabs were killed and about forty reported wounded. The Sabbath passed quietly in Jerusalem.
A cordon of police was thrown around the strip of territory between the neighboring cities of Arab Jaffa and all-Jewish Tel Aviv.
Fire early today destroyed much of the Jewish crops in Atlit. One Arab was reported shot dead by police, who arrested two others in connection with the blaze.
Other incidents reported during the day included the burning down of Jewish huts at Herzliah, colony named after the founder of political Zionism.
A bomb was hurled at the Jaffa Hospital, but no casualties were reported.
