Commander M. Peshkov, adopted son of Maxim Gorky, died here. He was forty years old.
Commander Peshkov was of Jewish origin and was adopted by Gorky when a child.
In 1914 he settled in France, where he served in the army during the World War. He lost an arm in battle. After the War he served in the French Foreign Legion in North Africa.
He wrote a book on his experiences in the Legion and toured the United States, lecturing on the Legion.
