Jewish Agency Seeking $800,000 from Palestine Government for Agriculture, Industry

The Executive of the Jewish Agency is negotiating with the Palestine Government for $800,000 to be used for the enlargement of agricultural and industrial facilities in the country, it was revealed today by Eliezer Kaplan, treasurer of the Agency.

At the same time Kaplan announced that the Agency’s war expenditures for the past two years totalled $6,872,000. The “lion’s share” of this sum came from the United States, Kaplan stated. The expenditures were apportioned as follows over the two-year period, he reported: thirty percent for agricultural colonization; seventeen percent for labor and housing; eleven percent for urban colonization; seven percent for education and culture; eighteen percent for national organization and security measures; ten percent for immigration activities; six percent for administration, including payment of interest on loans and one percent for health and social work. In addition about $8,000 was distributed every month to the families of men who had enlisted in the army.
