Mlle. Lena Bernstein, noted French-Jewish aviatrix, who undertook a flight from Paris to Tokio, Japan, has been forced to halt her flight near Bagdad, Iraq, as a result of her aeroplane’s crashing, the French Air Ministry announced today. Mlle. Bernstein was slightly injured.
Mlle. Bernstein, who is widely known for her endurance and distance flights, took off from Paris on Saturday. She had planned to stop the same day in Littornio, Italy, but failed to arrive there. Since then her whereabouts were unknown and she had been given up as lost.
Lena Bernstein, who is only 25 years old, immigrated to France from Russia. Her feats in aviation have been highly praised by fliers.
