Jewish, Christian and Muslim leaders from the former Yugoslavia and other Balkan countries agreed Tuesday to set up an interreligious working group to instill a spiritual dimension to reconstruction efforts in the war-torn region. Following a one-day meeting in Budapest, they also stressed that education was needed to prevent “religious and cultural hostility.” The Budapest meeting was sponsored by the European Jewish Congress, the Conference of European Rabbis and the European Council of Synagogue Organizations.
