Isi Foigl, Jewish community chairman, and his two deputies, Carl Metz and Gerhard Salomon, have resigned in the aftermath of a controversy over the threatened resignation of Denmark’s Chief Rabbi. Chief Rabbi Bent Melchior said yesterday he was resigning because of a conflict with Foigl over the rabbi’s appeal to the government to recall its ambassadors from Arab countries supporting terrorists. It appears today, however, that he will not resign. The rabbi said last night his protest was against “the system.” not against individuals.
