Application of the discoveries of nuclear science to peaceful purposes will be discussed by Jewish scientists next August at Stockholm, when the World Jewish Congress holds its world-wide plenum in the Swedish capital. An announcement to this effect was made here today by Dr. Nahum Goldman, president of the World Jewish Congress.
Dr. Goldman told the European executive committee of the WC, holding a two-way session here, that the conference in Stockholm must also regard as a key problem the co-existence of minorities under different political regimes. The WC, said the leader, has invited Protestant, Catholic and Moslem clergymen from Eastern as well as from Western countries to discuss this issue of “pluralism. “
Dr. Goldman revealed that, in addition to Hungarian Jewry, which is officially affiliated with the WJC, the Congress has also invited Jewish representation from other Soviet bloc countries, such as Poland, Rumania, Czechoslovakia and Bulgaria. Those countries have been asked to send either delegates or observers, said Dr. Goldmann.
Dr. William Krell, executive director of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Austria, reported to the executive committee about the treatment of war criminals, and the resurgence of anti-Semitism and neo-Nazism in Austria.
