Jacob Salvador Zweibil, a four-term member of the Sao Paulo State Legislature who was long active in the Jewish community, died of a heart attack earlier this month only five hours after taking office as Secretary of Culture in Sao Paulo’s municipal government. Janio Quadros, Mayor of Sao Paulo and a former President of Brazil, who appointed Zweibil, promptly nominated Helio Dechtiar, another Jewish community leader, to replace him.
