Jewish leaders in Britain warmly welcomed Prime Minister Tony Blair’s announcement of an annual Holocaust Day to honor the memory of the Nazis’ victims. Chief Rabbi Jonathan Sacks applauded what he described as “a brave and significant idea.” Blair said that starting next year the country would hold the commemoration on Jan. 27, the anniversary of the 1945 liberation of Auschwitz.
