State Senator Lazarus Joseph, who was notified yesterday of the death of his son, Capt. Jacob Joseph of the Marines, was preparing today to apply for Marine duty himself. “I am now more anxious than ever to get into service,” he said.
Capt. Joseph, 22 years old, was believed to be the youngest marine of his rank. He was killed in action at Guadalcanal on October 22, according to a telegram to his parents from Gen. Thomas Holcomb, Marine Corps commandant.
Senator Joseph had made an appointment with Gen. Holcomb before the telegram was received to investigate the possibility of joining the Marines. He is 50.
