Jews and Moslems cooperated actively in recent municipal elections in Casablanca, Morocco, according to complete tabulations of the voting reported here today.
In one constituency, two Jewish leaders competed for a seat on the Casablanca City Council, each backed by political groupings which included both Jews and Moslems. In that race, Mayer Toledano, an attorney, defeated Meyer Obadia, president of the Jewish Community, Mr. Toledano, the victor in that contest, is a member of the National Union of Popular Forces, which stands for active Moslem-Jewish cooperation through political and cultural groups, Mr. Obadia belongs to the conservative Istiqlal (Independence) Party.
Two districts containing overwhelmingly large populations of Jews elected Moslem candidates backed by the National Union. In two other districts, the winning National Union candidates were Jews, while the population in those areas is about equally divided between Jews and Moslems.
