Das Schwarze Korps, organ of the black-shirted elite guards, demanded today that Jews be given special compartments in trains far from the sleeping berths used by “Aryans.” The paper also demanded that in regular coaches special ghetto seats be provided similar to the “Jim Crow” seats set apart for Negroes in the American South. ” This democratic example shows us how to solve the travelling problems of foreign Jews,” the paper said.
“There is no pleasure in discovering in the pitiless light of morning that the companion of one’s peaceful dreams is a man who has just served three years in prison for soiling the race. If for well-considered financial reasons the railways cannot decide to ban Jews altogether from the sleeping cars, they should at least create separate compartments for Jews,” the paper said.
Threats against the clergy, particularly Jesuits, were featured by the same paper in an editorial greeting the New Year. Saying that the Jewish question will be completely liquidated in the New Year, the article referred “to other poisonous mushrooms,” and declared that there is ” an astonishing parallel between Jewish tactics and the catlike prudence of the clericals.” Jews and the clergy, it said, are virtuosos of the art of camouflage and ” show the same lack of scruples in the choice of means to achieve a given end.”
A violent attack on the Vatican was published by Der Angriff, organ of the German labor front. In what was apparently an answer to criticisms of totalitarian doctrines recently made by Pope Pius XI, and which were not published in German newspapers, the Angriff said that the Vatican at present seemed interested only in the Jewish question. Renewing the attack on British policy in Palestine, the article said that the Vatican “should at least protest in the name of Christianity against the hostilities which, with the participation of a protecting Christian power, has gravely affected the prestige and credit of Christianity in the Arab world
