Israel was cited last night for providing the world the “Peace Corps” concept by aiding other developing nations, in an address by Supreme Court Justice William C. Douglas, who was awarded the Eleanor Roosevelt Humanities Award at an Israel Bond dinner.
The award was presented by Ambassador James Roosevelt, U. S. delegate to the United Nations Economic and Social Council, and noted Mr. Douglas’ “outstanding service to humanity and friendship for Israel in the spirit of Eleanor Roosevelt.” Israel Ambassador Avaraham Harman said the people of Israel were deeply pleased and inspired by Eleanor Roosevelt’s friendship.” Those in attendance included other members of the U. S. Supreme Court, the Cabinet, and members of Congress.
