The current picture of refugee aid and assistance to Jews overseas was discussed last night at a dinner meeting of the officers of the Joint Distribution Committee and prominent Latin American Jews.
Joseph C. Hyman, Executive Vice-Chairman of the J.D.C., outlined the current problems and the policies of the organization, and recounted its historical background and development as the mayor instrument of the Jews of this country for overseas assistance and refugee aid. Morris C. Troper, Chairman of the J.D.C. European Executive Council, gave the details of the present relief programs of the J.D.C. in Europe and elsewhere, and told of its work in the field of emigration. Isaac H. Levy, on behalf of the J.D.C. Committee on Refugee Aid in Central and South America, told the visitors that the J.D.C’s object is to work in harmony and cooperation with local communities, and asked for information and suggestions from them. Paul Baerwald, Honorary Chairman of the J.D.C., presiding, urged the visitors to continue the cordial relationships established at the meeting.
Messages of greetings to the Latin American visitors were received from Governor Herbert H. Lehman and from Edward M. M. Warburg, chairman of the J.D.C.
