Today was viewed as judgment day for the left wing at the fur workers convention which decided to grant Ben Gold and the other excluded left delegates a hearing.
The special session will be held this afternoon Matthew Woll, vice-president of the American Federation of Labor will act as chairman, President Schachtman having asked to be excused because he is involved in the controversy.
The vote to grant the left a hearing came after a long debate in which it appeared that the majority of the delegates were opposed thereto because the left delegates had declined to appear before the Committee on Grievances and Appeals elected by the Convention, on the ground that the majority of its members were members of the reorganized unions whose legality they questioned and were prejudiced parties to the controversy.
Following the hearing today the convention will vote whether or not to expel the suspended left unions, which is the main recommendation of the Board’s report. Ben Gold called on President Green of the Federation of Labor making a request for peace and unity.
