The Jewish emigration to Mongolia from the town of Manchouli, in Manchuria, on the borders of Soviet Russia, which not long ago had a very large Jewish population, has during the past year grown to such an extent that the Jewish population has now decreased by half. All the emigration has been from among the younger and more energetic part of the population, with the result that the Jewish communal life in Manchouli is practically dying out. All Jewish social activity has ceased.
Manchouli is a transmigrant centre for large numbers of Jews proceeding from Soviet Russia through Manchuria. Previously they were looked after by the local Jewish commounity who saw to it that they should be sent on to their destinations in Harbin, Tientsin, Shanghai, etc. This work has now been almost completely stopped.
