The appointment of Dr. Maurice Karpf, nationally known figure in the field of Jewish social work, as executive director of the Los Angeles Jewish Community Council and Federation of Jewish Welfare Agencies was announced here today by Judge Harry A. Hollzer, president of the Council, and David Tennenbaum, president of the Federation.
Dr. Karpf, who will assume his duties soon, was director of the Graduate School for Jewish Social Work in New York from the time the school was organized. The institution which has been in existence for fifteen years, has graduated 226 specialists in the field of Jewish social work. Dr. Karpf is also a member of the Council and Administrative Committee of the Jewish Agency for Palestine representing the American non-Zionists there.
As executive director of the Federation in Los Angeles, Dr. Karpf will continue the program of coordinating the philanthropic and social service programs of some fourteen Jewish community agencies. Through his affiliation with the Council he will have the task of further developing the Council program of serving as a clearing house for the various projects of its constituent groups, as well as other problems of the Jewish community.
