A memorial service for Dr. Chaim Sheba, Israel’s first Minister of Health, who died last month, was held by the Manhattan Guild at the American-Israel Culture Foundation. Dr. Sheba was the creator of Tel Hashomer Hospital in Tel Aviv, which was renamed the Chaim Sheba Medical Center last week. Rehaveam Amir, Israel’s Consul General in New York, spoke of his friendship with Dr. Sheba which began during their army days in Israel’s War of Independence in 1948. Other speakers included Dr. Leo Davidoff, an American neuro-surgeon, and Mrs. Annette Nadler, president of the Manhattan Guild, which sponsors the Medical Center’s Pediatric Department.
